When it comes to fashion rising star models those that appear make the rest of us wonder what is that fashion is trying to sell. There is no way for me to identify (of course, at the level of the market) to any of these kids. First and foremost they are, what in gay culture, we call ‘twinks’ which means no body hair nor the slightest trace of a beard. There is something profoundly androgynous, prepubescent and paedophiliac in the consacration of these kids as fashion models. The first examples that come to my mind are Ben Waters and Martin Conte (see images)
I guess that the problem lies in the experimental quality of the clothes that reject a real man wearing them so the models become artifacts that embody a series of contradictions (a logic that mirrors that of the clothes). The logic inherent to both fashion and models…
